Week 30 (2017) – D is for Deficiency?

Health News (Week 30 – 2017)
By Robert Redfern

It may seem confusing in the northern hemisphere to talk about Vitamin D3 deficiency in the summer (It is important not to simply say D since it is D3 we need). Since my newsletter goes around the world and especially since we have a new grandchild in Melbourne, Australia and it is winter over there right now, there are many good reasons to discuss D3 deficiency. There are also many reasons to consider whether you need to supplement Vitamin D3…

To be clear:

  • I live on a very sunny island but I’m standing at my computer station most of the day and need to supplement D3.
  • The locals here generally don’t sunbathe and certainly not every day and they need to supplement D3.
  • The visitors to the island certainly sunbathe while they are here but that is not enough for the rest of the 50 weeks in the year so they need to supplement D3.
  • Even in desert countries people cover up so much that everyone living there needs a daily D3.
  • On dark winter days we get zero Vitamin D3 and studies show supplementing can help prevent flu or colds – YES, we do need MORE Vitamin D3.
  • Bottle fed babies critically need D3 supplements (71 years ago I got government supplied D3 every day).
  • Even breast fed babies need supplements if their mother is not supplementing enough.
  • Older people need daily D3 (and many more nutrients).

D Facts

Fake science says that we only need to supplement 400iu Vitamin D per day but since the sun delivers 10,000iu – 20,000iu per day – 400iu per day HAS to be fake.

Synthetic Vitamin D (not D3) when it is added to foods should be avoided.

The best source of Vitamin D3 is from the sun and this delivers 10,000-20,000 (IU) per day.

The next best food source is cod liver oil delivering 5000iu per 100mg. A portion of oily fish delivers 500iu.

Vitamin D3 NEEDS Vitamin K2 as this is an important co-factor of D3 for maximum effectiveness and especially for older people subject to osteoporosis risk.

Only Vitamin D3-K2 Spray contains natural Vitamin D3 in a sublingual form for better absorption.

I personally take 10,000-15,000iu of Vitamin D3 per day even in the summer, which is why I never get a cold or the flu. Another good reason to take it is and of course the main reason – for cancer prevention.

Benefits Of Vitamin D3

The effectiveness ratings for Vitamin D are as follows…

Effective for:

  • Treating conditions that cause weak and painful bones (osteomalacia).
  • Low levels of phosphate in the blood (familial hypophosphatemia).
  • Low levels of phosphate in the blood due to a disease called Fanconi syndrome.
  • Psoriasis.
  • Low blood calcium levels because of a low parathyroid thyroid hormone levels.
  • Helps to prevent low calcium and bone loss (renal osteodystrophy) in people with kidney failure.
  • Rickets.

Likely effective for:

  • Treating osteoporosis (weak bones). Taking a specific form of vitamin D called cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) along with Magnesium Oil seems to help prevent bone loss and bone breaks. Preventing falls in older people. Researchers noticed that people who don’t have enough vitamin D tend to fall more often than other people. They found that taking a vitamin D3 supplement reduces the risk of falling by up to 22%. Higher doses of vitamin D are more effective than lower doses. One study found that taking higher than 800 IU of vitamin D3 reduced the risk of falling, but lower doses didn’t.
  • Also, vitamin D3, in combination with magnesium, but not magnesium alone, may prevent falls by decreasing body sway and blood pressure. This combination prevents more falls in women than men.
  • Reducing bone loss in people taking drugs called corticosteroids.

Possibly effective for:

  • Reducing the risk of multiple sclerosis (MS). Studies show taking vitamin D3 seems to reduce women’s risk of getting MS by up to 40%. Taking at least 800 IU per day, the amount typically found in a multivitamin supplement, is insufficient.
  • Preventing cancer. Some research shows that people who take a high-dose vitamin D3 supplement plus magnesium might have a lower chance of developing cancer of any type.
  • Weight loss. Women taking calcium plus vitamin D3 are more likely to lose weight and maintain their weight. But this benefit is mainly in women who didn’t get enough calcium before they started taking supplements.
  • Flu. Some research in school aged children show that taking a vitamin D3 supplement during winter might reduce the chance of getting seasonal flu.
  • Reducing the risk of rheumatoid arthritis in older women.
  • Reducing bone loss in women with a condition called hyperparathyroidism.
  • Preventing tooth loss in the elderly.

Other supplements with effective amounts of D3 include:
