A new study in the journal Neuropeptides has revealed that curcumin can improve the symptoms of pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS) and increase this hormone that within the nervous system. It does this by increasing the hormone known as Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) which has been shown to have significant decreases in women who suffer from severe and challenging PMS cycles.
The study offers hope for millions of women suffering with PMS that may be taking painkillers to reduce their symptoms. They may use non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs known as NSAIDs to find relief for their painful symptoms yet they often come with numerous adverse side effects, causing thousands of heart attacks every year.
The curcumin extract has been shown to have a positive modulating effect on BDNF levels in those suffering with PMS. The study found that BDNF is a widespread growth factor in the nervous system and this can modulate a wide range of functions relating to neurogenesis, synaptogenesis, neuronal survival and growth.
The study found there was a worldwide prevalence of PMS with up to 80-90%, while 2-5% suffer so severely and this is known as premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).
Curcumin may be the ideal solution for treating PMS, compared to NSAIDs. Unlike the conventional approach to treating PMS that focuses on suppressing the symptoms rather then addressing the root causes, Curcumin’s anti-inflammatory effects can relieve the pain associated with PMS naturally and without any side effects, unlike pharmaceutical medications such as anti-depressants and painkillers.
For best results, it’s important to take Curcumin that’s highly absorbable. CurcuminX4000™ contains Phytosome® technology in the form of Meriva®, an extract from the Curcuma longa plant that Curcumin comes from. Curcuminx4000™ and Meriva® are patented joining Curcumin, a dietary phenolic with phosphatidyl choline for a total Curcumin content of 20%. This makes Curcuminx4000™ 20x more effective than ordinary Curcumin.
