Walnuts have been linked to the inhibition of cancer development and can even initiate the death of cancer cells according to several research studies. The cancer killing properties within walnuts although rare, are thought to contain several unusual and potent phytonutrients that are found in relatively few foods.
Walnuts contain strong cancer inhibiting properties such as tannin tellimagrandin, quinone juglone and the flavonol morin4. The several studies have highlighted that walnuts have unique cancer-fighting properties and researchers have shown that diets rich in walnut oil also have the ability to slow prostate cancer within test subjects.
Other studies showed that eating two handfuls of walnuts every day could halve the risk of breast cancer and tumor growth. It’s believed this is the case because walnuts can inhibit the growth of the IGF-1 hormone and this plays an important role in developing both prostate and breast cancer.
One study found that overweight adults who have Type 2 diabetes and who chose to eat a quarter cup of walnuts daily significantly reduced their fasting insulin levels within a month, compared to those who didn’t.
Walnuts are high in Omega-3 fatty acids and are great to include in the diet, especially as they are often mentioned in cancer-preventive studies. Many experts also believe that Omega-3 fatty acids can reduce inflammation in the body and this is because it has been linked with various cancers.
However, not many walnuts are needed to make a difference to health. Too many walnuts can contribute to excess stored fat and while calories aren’t everything, optimal health is connected to a relatively low calorie diet. A plant based lifestyle is highly recommended for good health and to avoid inflammation within the body for this reason.
To get a direct source of Omega-3’s, it’s wise to take a supplement in the form of Krill Oil or Hemp Seed Oil. The recommended Krill product is The Krill Miracle™ from Good Health Naturally as it contains concentrated Omega 3, 6 and 9 oils that are many more times powerful than traditional fish oil. When the essential Omega fatty acids are received, along with eating walnuts and following a healthy diet and lifestyle, it’s possible to see significant improvements to your overall health…even with conditions as serious as cancer.
You recommend omega 6 supplementation yet I understand that Americans get too much of it already. Why supplement? To
Hi Steve, Omega 6 in combination with Omega 3, 9 and even 7 are essential for health. In this combination, in the right ratios, it serves the purpose of actually aiding the absorption of omega 3. However, if taken in excess, especially in modern diet form only, the altered form of Omega 6 can actually override the absorption of other essential omega oils. Essentially it is not that people already get too much of it, but that they are eating the wrong foods, unhealthy foods, that are giving it to them. If you change to a healthy diet, which is essential for any supplementation regime, this wouldn’t occur, but for the right reasons! And you would then supplement with the right types of healthy foods (oily fish…) and a good ratio Omega supplement such as The Krill Miracle.
