Winter is known as ‘cold and flu’ season for many. You may be stocking up on tissues and cold medicines to get you through. Yet what you may not realise is how something as simple as Serrapeptase can be in relieving the symptoms of colds and flu in the first place.
Symptoms of Cold and Flu
Runny Nose – Otherwise known as Rhinitis, this is inflammation of the nose, resulting in large amounts of mucus being generated. Common symptoms are a stuffy nose, runny nose and sneezing. Discharge from the nose comes from the front and can also drain through the back, a condition called post-nasal drip.
Allergic rhinitis is a common kind of cold and this is usually triggered by airborne allergens. In addition, allergic rhinitis may cause other symptoms such as sneezing and nasal itching, coughing, headache, fatigue, malaise, and cognitive impairment.
Catarrhal Rhinopharyngitis is another term for the common cold. It is a viral infectious disease in the upper respiratory tract that mainly affects the nose.
This condition involves an excessive buildup of mucus or phlegm in the airways, mouth and nasal cavities of the body. As a result, it causes inflammation to the mucus membranes of the nose and throat. Symptoms include a sore throat, coughing, sneezing, and fever. Many of these resolve in ten days, but some symptoms last up to three weeks.
Laryngitis is an inflammation in the vocal cords in the larynx. The larynx is a 2 inch (5 cm) high tubular chamber. As the organ for the voice in mammals, larynx is commonly referred to as the voice box. Cartilage, ligaments and muscles make it up. It is a condition that is rarely serious and lasts on average for 7 days.
The most common cause is a viral infection. This can result in a weak or hoarse, gravelly voice; sore throat; sometimes a fever or a cough (usually dry and non-productive); a tickling feeling in the throat; and difficulty swallowing.
Sinusitis – Sinusitis is an infection that occurs in the maxillary sinuses or frontal sinuses. Maxillary sinuses are on both sides of the face. Frontal sinuses, on the other hand, can be found on the either side of the nose.
Sinusitis is usually caused by a food intolerance, particularly to dairy or wheat products. Problems such as constipation, (i.e. not passing around 2-3 stools a day), can also lead to this problem.
In addition, not drinking enough water throughout the day also could be a cause. One must drink eight glasses of water a day as opposed to soft drinks, tea, or coffee. Issues such as a poor diet can also lead to problems. This can cause a build-up of unhealthy tissue in the body, creating the perfect environment for infections to grow.
A sore throat, otherwise known as pharyngitis, involves painfully inflamed mucous membranes that line the pharynx. It can be the symptom of numerous conditions but it closely relates with a cold or influenza.
Viral or even bacterial infections usually cause this condition. In addition, they are sometimes the result of environmental conditions. This sometimes heals on its own eventually, but still shouldn’t be ignored in case it develops into a more serious illness.
All of the above cold and flu symptoms can be improved by taking Serrapeptase. As a proteolytic enzyme, Serrapeptase can safely dissolve inflammation and dead scar tissue within the body.
Serrapeptase clears away the problem of inflammation and dead scar tissue involved in each of the above symptoms, enabling the body’s own immune system to deal more easily with irritation.

I have bought 60,000btu Serrapeptase to help with my CVD. However, after taking it for only one day it made me dreadfully sick, so sick I had to take to my bed for half a day then felt awful for the rest of day. I stuck at it however and took it each day for one week, thinking I would get used to it, but continued to feel and be so very sick I have had to give up. Even halving the dosage (difficult with capsules) did not improve matters. Can you tell me why I should have this reaction when it is so highly recommended?
Hi Lyn, As the enzyme works through the system it will help clear the blood and organs of excess fibrin and debris, whilst promoting a healthy inflammatory response and support the removal of toxins. The release of toxins may be felt for a short time, as with any detox, or in some cases trigger a short-term digestive system upset, especially if there are already any underlying imbalances here. Try adding a pinch of bicarb to a small amount of water before you take the serrapeptase to help reduce stomach acidity, or alternatively try adding the serrapeptase to a little non-protein food such as applesauce to help coat the stomach.

Hi Lyn!
Same thing happened to me with the serrapeptase, plus it made me really sleepy and I wanted to be in bed all day long, is nothing to worry about. It means the serrapeptase is working and it triggered a detox reaction, in th beginning it will make you feel sick. You should start taking a high dose of Vit C daily (1 gram) to help with the detox process, stick to it and you will see that after a couple weeks you are going to start feeling awesome!
