Coconut Oil has been hitting the headlines a lot recently due to its various health properties, versatile abilities and functions. This is a wonderful ingredient to keep to hand around the home – for cooking, health and beauty purposes amongst others. Some of these ideas may seem a little surprising (and crazy!) but they are worth remembering should you experience have any of the reasons below…

- A natural deodrant. Coconut oil under the armpits is a great way to combat BO. Smear a little under each armpit for best results, or mix with a little bicarbonate of soda for enhanced freshness. The antibacterial and antifungal properties within coconut oi mean it is excellent for minimising body odours.
- Lip moisturiser. The high level of Vitamin E in coconut oil means it’s an excellent way to moisturise chapped or sore lips. Keep a little jar of coconut oil in your bag for whenever your lips feel sore, for some instant moisturisation and relief.

Gargling and rinsing with a little sea salt dissolved in water can also help to give the mouth a fresh and squeaky clean feel.

Soak the feet in a bucket of warm water for 10 minutes and then rub the coconut scrub over the feet, taking extra caution around the heels. Rinse the feet into a bucket and then pat dry. Fantastic Tips
A great reminder Thanks Robert.
I have been using coconut oil for a few years know it was recommended by a friend and it has been so good for my skin as it gets very dry as we get older well in my case anyway.and it lasts all day. Its the only one that does not clog on the skin so you can put your makeup on very well.
Thank you for your comment Pauline. Yes it does make a great daily moisturizer.

I recently travelled to New Zealand from Australia for 2 weeks. I got a huge skin rash on the second day I was there. Didn’t know what caused it..
Antihistamines did nothing. Cortisone cream did nothing as much as I hated using it. Finally googled it and started using coconut oil. The oil changed the itch to a stinging feeling. I could put up with the sting but not the itch.
The rash only improved the day after I returned to Australia.
Flaxseed oil worked as well to stop the itch.
Thank you for your comments Ian. Yes some people do find relief from minor skin irritations, or even eczema and psoriasis, by applying coconut oil to the skin. It can also be helpful to include a good probiotic supplement such as Prescript Assist, to the diet, at the same time.
