Nearly one third of people are thought to be sleep deprived while 48% said they don’t get enough sleep according to the Centers for Disease Control survey conducted in April 2013. Many more of us aren’t getting enough sleep and are suffering the consequences as a result.
Sleep is an essential human function that enables the brain to recharge itself and for the cells to repair themselves. Along with allowing the body to release important hormones that can regulate the body’s functions, sleep is a necessary requirement and we need different amounts of it depending on our age.
A lack of sleep can also have severe repercussions such as an increased risk of stroke, diabetes, obesity, bone damage, cardiovascular disease, cancer and even full memory loss. People who don’t get enough sleep may be more susceptible to suffering from these health conditions. The National Sleep Foundation suggests an average of 7-9 hours sleep is recommended every night but many of us are getting considerably less than this. Most alarmingly, researchers suggest there are serious health consequences for those who don’t get enough sleep, especially if it’s 6 hours or less.
Thankfully, the curcumin extract can help. This natural ingredient and active compound found in turmeric can help people to sleep better. Its anti-bacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties are just some of the reasons why curcumin is believed to help improve both sleep quality and quantity. Curcumin is also believed to have numerous other health benefits and these have been extensively studied by many of the world’s most renowned researchers.
One animal based study that was conducted by scientists tried to determine curcumin’s effect on sleep. Results found that curcumin succeeded in protecting mice who had been deprived of sleep for 72 hours as a result of sleep deprivation. Scientists also added that when the curcumin extract was administered for 5 days it helped with the prevention of oxidative damage along with any anxiety-like effects or locomotor impairment. Therefore, if you are suffering with insomnia or difficulty sleeping, curcumin supplements could be helpful.
CurcuminX4000™ available from Good Health Naturally contains Curcumin combined with Phytosome technology. Phytosomes are a complex natural active ingredient and a phospholipid. Specifically, the phytosomes are the plant extracts and when bound to choline, it has a very high bioavailability rate when taken by mouth – it’s up to 20x more effective in comparison to a standardised curcumin extract.
