This weekend, an intense heatwave is set to sweep across the UK and Europe. As temperatures are predicted to rise as high as 47 degrees C in France and a record-breaking 40 degrees C in the UK – it’s essential to make preparations and to stay safe in the summer heat.

At Naturally Healthy News we’d like to help by giving you some healthy lifestyle recommendations that can help you to stay cool and make the most of the sunshine and good weather.

Staying Cool In The Heat

Drink More Water

One of the best ways to ensure you stay healthy in a heatwave is to remember to stay hydrated. Drinking plenty of water can ensure you replenish the fluids that your body may lose from excessive sweating.

You may want to drink a glass of pure filtered water with a small amount of bicarbonate of soda or organic liquid trace minerals, for extra benefits. You could prepare these bottles in the morning, or take them with you during the day. You can also leave them on the table to remind you to pick them up before leaving the house.

Limit Caffeine and Alcohol

If possible, you may want to limit the amount of tea or coffee you are drinking as caffeine may increase the risk of becoming dehydrated, the same as alcohol. While consuming caffeine during the summer months doesn’t do any harm, it’s recommended to not exceed 250 milligrams (about two and a half cups a day). There’s even some evidence to suggest that hot drinks can help the body to face hot days with more vigour. Iced coffee (choose a sugar-free or low-sugar option where possible) may also be an option to consider instead to stay cool.

Avoid Extreme Sports Activities

Exercising in hot, humid weather can rapidly raise your body’s core temperature, putting you at risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke. During a heatwave, it’s recommended to be more mindful of partaking in extreme sports activities such as running, cycling, or boxing, in particular.

Stay Out of the Sun When It’s Hottest Between 11am and 3pm

To prevent sunburn, it’s recommended to avoid going out during the hottest times of the day between 11am and 3pm if possible. Easy ways to stay out of the sun include sitting in the shade with a book for a while, or staying indoors until the hottest part of the day is over.

Keep the Blinds Down and Windows Closed

Closing your window blinds or curtains on a hot summer day can help to block out the sunlight, keeping your home cooler and reducing your energy use. To stay cool, it’s recommended to open the windows early in the morning and late at night when the outside temperature is cooler and leave them closed with your curtains closed too during the hotter parts of the day.

Wear Natural Sunscreen

There are now many organic and natural sun creams available to buy in the shops and online. Choose a mineral sunscreen that can provide UVA and UVB protection, that’s formulated with natural filters, antioxidants, and oils to leave the skin feeling nourished and protected throughout the day. We recommend using a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30, to protect against UVB rays.

Wear Light-Coloured Cotton

By wearing light coloured cotton clothing, this can encourage the skin to breathe. You can stay cooler this way as more air passes over your body. Wearing a light-colored hat will further limit sun exposure and keep you cooler.

Keep Your Pets Safe In the Heat

Pets can dehydrate quickly in hot weather so it’s essential to give them plenty of clean, fresh water. Make sure your pets have somewhere shady where they can be out of the sun. Be careful not to overexercise them too – simply keep them indoors when the weather is extremely hot.

Consider AstaXanthin

Research shows that the powerful carotenoid and antioxidant called Astaxanthin may help to prevent sunburn and protect skin from UV radiation. Please note, however, that taking Astaxanthin is not a replacement for wearing sunscreen. It’s also beneficial for protecting against cumulative sun damage to the eye and this may, in turn, help to reduce the risk of eye diseases such as macular degeneration. We recommend AstaXanthin with DHA™ from Good Health Naturally as it combines the benefits of both Astaxanthin with pure DHA for maximum anti-inflammatory benefits.

Astaxanthin with DHA™

Provides a powerful combination of pure DHA and AstaReal® Astaxanthin for efficient and effective absorption by the entire body, as well as the brain, where it plays a protective role due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits. May help to protect skin from UV radiation. AstaReal® offers Astaxanthin of the highest purity and safety, made in freshwater algae. Suitable for vegans. 90 capsules. Available from Good Health Naturally.

By following these simple lifestyle tips, you can ensure that you stay safe in the heat and enjoy the most of the summer weather.

Never Forget The Fundamental Health Care Rules

All of these rules are detailed further in our eBooks that you can view
and Download Here

1. Breathing properly – Oxygen is the most critical element for life and health since most people cannot live more than 5 minutes without it. Oxygen is critical for healthy cells, and the regeneration of your body and is the essential fuel for your immune system. You can improve the oxygenation of the body by learning to breathe from the diaphragm (tummy). We also recommend laying down instead of sitting down.

2. Sit less – Those who sit for more than 8 hours per day are more likely to have health problems and die younger than those who sit for less than 3 hours per day. When you are sitting your breathing is the least effective. If you are unable to stand, laying down is better than sitting.

3. Drink Plenty of Water (with Sodium Bicarbonate) – Water is the second most critical nutrient and most people would die after 7 days of drinking no water. Consume around 6-8 glasses of pure water over the day (with a small amount of Bicarbonate of Soda and Organic Liquid Trace Minerals added for extra benefits). Tip: Prepare the bottles in the morning and take them with you or leave them on the table to remind you.

4. Walk More – Walking is vital for two reasons; improving breathing and intake of oxygen and circulating blood around the body. The heart is not a pump and does not pump blood around the body it is a circulator and needs walking movement to work efficiently. To get the most benefits; walk at a good pace with longer strides whilst keeping your pelvis slightly forward and tucked in at the bottom of the spine. If you cannot walk, then lay on your back with your legs elevated and cycle your legs every few minutes.

5. Stop eating all grains, cereals, and other high-sugar foods and drinks – Research indicates that the consumption of wheat contributes to the growth of pathogenic bacteria in our gut, adding to the mounting concern that grain/cereal (often contaminated with Roundup herbicide) is one of the worst types of foods to consume for gut health. The foods to avoid include; high-sugar foods and drinks, breads, pastry, biscuits, breakfast cereals, rice, potatoes, parsnips, and wheat-based pasta. See alternative recipes at my www.ReallyHealthyFoods.com, and select Keto for the best health options.

6. Eat more greens, other colourful vegetables, and dark-skinned fruits – Organic options are best if possible. Many of the discount supermarkets offer organic foods at low prices.

7. Take Nutritional Supplements – Your body and cells need specific nutrients to function optimally. Most of the critical vitamins and minerals are no longer in foods in sufficient quantities. This is particularly important for if/when children are planned, and as we age. Government Nutritionists will claim that eating a balanced diet contains all of the nutrients needed. This is simply not true. Most critical minerals are dangerously deficient.
