This powerful health drink known as ‘Golden Milk’ provides many benefits to the body.
Made with Turmeric and Coconut Milk, this drink can promote good liver health and faster healing of wounds and skin problems. It can also cure stomach issues, respiratory illnesses and joint pain.
The health benefits from Golden Milk come from its main ingredient – a spice known as turmeric. This contains a polyphenol called Curcumin that has been shown to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
Turmeric’s benefits have been studied in great depth and it appears to help lower inflammation and blood sugar levels. This is known to be helpful for people who have metabolic syndrome.
Turmeric has many amazing benefits for brain health. Studies show that turmeric extract Curcumin can improve brain function in one dose. Turmeric can also promote angiogenesis (the development of new blood vessels), meaning that this is a vital process in the growth and repair of tissues.
Curcumin is a bioactive compound found in turmeric that is also an anti-cancer agent. This can terminate the growth and proliferation of cancer cells. It does this by inhibiting the activity of cells that form blood vessels and the activity of factors promoting angiogenesis. It also has a pro-apoptopic (causes cell death) and anti-proliferative effect on the tumor cells.
For all of the above reasons, this Golden Milk recipe is recommended for anyone who has Alzheimer’s, senility or any kind of brain tumour. It will also benefit throat or digestive tumours.

What is the relevance of the oil and pepper please?
Can this be done with plain milk – I don’t like coconut…..
Hi Lyn, the pepper and oil further enhance the absorption of the turmeric, and you can use an alternative to coconut milk if preferred.
I don’t understand how turmeric can improve health by its ability to promote angiogenesis yet at the same time, it has cancer fighting abilities because it inhibits angiogenesis ?
Hi Karin, like many herbs turmeric has the ability to normalise and balance functions in the body. It has been highlighted for it benefits in effecting angiogenesis by inhibiting the growth of cancer cells. Whilst is can stop excessive angiogenesis, it can also promote angiogenesis where necessary and have a regulatory effect on the growth of blood vessels.
how is the turmeric paste made?
You can buy it from health shops. Alternatively here is a recipe… 1/2 cup (125 mls/60gms) turmeric powder. 1 cup water (250 mls) PLUS 1 cup water in reserve, if needed.1/3 cup (70 mls) one of the following oils: Raw (unrefined) Cold Pressed Coconut Oil, Linseed (flaxseed) oil or Virgin/Extra Virgin Olive Oil. 2-3 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper.
Bring the turmeric and water to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer until you have a thick paste. This should take about 7-10 minutes and you may need to add additional water along the way.
Add the freshly ground pepper and oil at the end of cooking, when the turmeric and water mixture has cooled down to just warm. Stir well to incorporate the oil and allow to cool.
Is it more beneficial to use a paste than a powder? I make the same hot drink using powdered turmeric with black pepper, ginger, cardamom and cinnamon -really delicious.
