High blood sugar levels have been linked to an increased risk of developing dementia, according to a recent study published in the New England Journal of Medicine. The study examined over 2000 adults over the age of 76, the majority of whom were not diabetic. It was found that the higher the numbers in blood sugar levels, the greater the risk towards brain health.
The authors of the study aren’t entirely sure why there’s a strong link between high blood sugar levels and the risk of dementia, but the speculation is that the higher levels of blood sugar play can cause an increased level of vascular disease – although there may be metabolic factors at play such as insulin resistance that can have an effect on brain cells.
Lowering blood sugar levels is the answer
Thankfully, high blood sugar levels can be managed through lifestyle factors such as choosing to eat healthy and doing more exercise. Reducing the intake of foods that are high in starch and carbohydrates has been shown to be one of the best ways to control blood sugar levels. This means cutting out all breads, pastas, rice, potatoe, corn and any highly refined grains that may be contributing to high blood sugar levels.
Eating more green leafy vegetables, fruits and sources of lean protein is highly recommended as this can make a big difference to your overall health and any blood sugar lowering effects. The American Health Association recommends no more than 6 teaspoons of sugar per day but many natural health experts suggest it should be much lower. It’s also highly recommended that all foods containing high-fructose corn syrup be avoided as these can cause high spikes in blood sugar levels too.
5 Tips to Reduce Blood Sugar Levels:
- Get 20 minutes of exercise daily. This encourages blood flow around the body and has a profound effect on both general health and lowering blood sugar levels.
- Avoid all sugary and starchy foods as these can elevate blood sugar levels.
- Add Cinnamon to your meals. Some of the constituents that make up cinnamon have been shown in studies to stimulate insulin receptors and blok the enzyme that interrupts them. One suggestion that’s highly recommended is to take Cinnamon27™ from Good Health Naturally as it can help to support normal and healthy blood sugar levels.
- Take Gynema Sylvestre as this can normalise blood glucose function and assist in the regeneration of pancreas B cells. One supplement suggestion that’s highly recommended for this purpose is to take GlycoSpray™ from Good Health Naturally as this also contains Vanadyl Sulfate for maintaining glucose levels, along with Chromium and Niacin for proper synthesis of insulin and metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins.
- Serrapeptase for clearing inflammation and improving blood circulation is also highly advisable. Serranol™ is the suggested formulation from Good Health Naturally as this also contains Curcumin, Ecklonia Cava Extract and Vitamin D3 to support healthy blood flow and to boost the body’s health.
When all of the above lifestyle and nutrient advice is taken onboard, it’s possible to see significant improvements in both brain and general health, if followed in the long term.
